    Question 660 starting problem/carb problem and questions

    so my problem is i go to start the 660 it will just turn over then i spray a little ether into the intake and it will back fire a few times like its cleaning it self out.. at the same time the spark plug is SOAKED also the boot what looks to be like oil and gas mixed except i couldnt smell gas its very thin like the oils thinned out... after it gets done backfiring and all it will start and the exhaust head goes up in smoke (the exhaust does have some kind of old dirt or w.e it is on it) and gets hot REALLY fast.. but without spraying ether and with the intake lid on (no holes) it wont start it may try once or twice but just turns over.. i have a yoshi exhaust and it is all stock.. i really want to say its my carb needing rebuilt but i want to see what everyone else thinks... i got me some mikuni 155/160 main jets and 25 pilot jets i havent put in yet...

    in my area im at an elevation of 725-750 ft.. what do you think would be the best settings to try first with the a/f screws?

    when is the last time it ran right? Sounds like carb issues

    i have no idea the guy i got it from told me its not pumping oil to the head but i pull the top oil line and its wet after turning it over... the carbs was hanging off to the side out in the open by the throttle cable when he brought it over... i have my main jets right now just waiting on my pilots... it dont back fire from the exhaust just through the intake...

    sounds like your valve timing could be off..INtake valve not closing

    May want to put in a new spark plug and check valve adjustments if you haven't already done it.

    +1 on checking valve adjustments. Could make a difference. I would also definitely do a good cleaning on the carbs though as well.

    If your trying to get it started without the filter on or airbox lid on when its jetted for it, it will not run very easily. Still sounds like a carb issue. Pilots sound plugged.

    Thanks guys I adjusted the valves the other morning but ill do the Carb when my pilots finally show up and recheck the valves again and see what happens from there

    ok so i am taking my carb apart right now and come to find out theres a 146L/148R and 22.5 pilots... the 148 was clogged and both pilots are unable to be seen through.. should i stick with the 146/148 which i feel are dynojets? or use my mikuni 155/160? im waiting on my 25 pilot jets in the mail im defiantly swapping those out.. id also like to know what the one jet in the left carb is for that isnt in the right side carb i cant find anything about that one?

    main thing is to get the carbs clean get them back on the bike then tune from there if thats a dynojet kit the needles will only work with dynojet jets i do believe. The needles are tappered differently
