My brother runs that gearing on his Raptor with a HC3, ported head, duals, ignition, etc. and it works really well. He runs the stock length chain

That's barely a higher gear ratio than the stock 14/38 combo.

That's not a question I can answer and may take some trial and elimination. The stock gearing is a 2.71 ratio and a 15/40 is 2.67. You may want to try 15/38 which is a 2.53 ratio.

I tried multiple combos and settled on 15/37 for my bike and Sand Mt..

I am mid 60's HP and weigh 225

Isn't a lower gear better for going up dunes? Especially high elevation ones...

Sand does rob power.. As long as you have the power to turn the wheels, the faster you will be, especially in a drag situation. I still launch in first and will get into 4th by the top or power out 3rd depending. Granted Sand Mt is 600 feet to the top and thats where rabbit is going..... My combo is a happy medium between sand drags and duning.

I've never been on a dune so don't know the difference. I do know my 15t spins the tires a lot in sandy trails down here so I know what you mean by robbing power.
    RIP COOP!
