Hi guy I'm new to this group. I bought myself a nice raptor for $1700. Its basically stock except for the FMF slip on. I am soon going to be stationed at Ft Irwin Cali which is out in the Mojave desert. I'm wondering what mods I can do yo make it faster, and have better suspension. I don't really have a budget but I don't want to go crazy with it either. I am a pretty good fabricator and I know how to stick MIG and TIG weld. id like to keep it below 2k. Ive heard something about a 700 head, and it flows better, any details on that swap?

here is my list of mods I'm considering (forget the "I want to keep it under $2k" part):
New trans gears
Clutch kit
Rod
13:1 CR piston (maybe less)
port & polished 700 head (still need it cleared up if this just bolts on or if it needs a 700 jug
Big bore kit
widen and lower bike.
Thouhts??

Start with what they call the big 3 and if you want more you can build on it. The big 3 for the 660 is full exhaust, a new filter kit or airbox combo and a jet kit. That really wakes the bike up. Next would be head and motor work. The 700 head does not swap over that I have seen. The 700 is FI and the 660 is carbed. That would make for a super complex head swap. Its not needed anyways. You can still pull huge numbers from a 660. Find a builder that knows the 660 and get their recommendation on parts and work needed to reach your goals.

take your head and cylinder off send it to Kenz Cycle tech in AZ he will will port you head bore your cylinder out to a 686 you will get your head back ready to install new valves and guides, New piston, new cam, new springs. thats about 1200 bucks then buy the exhaust he likes probably 5 or 600 bucks, new filter setup 40 bucks
he will tell you how to jet your carbs.
it will feel like a whole new bike. really fast and reliable. i have had this setup on one of my raptors for 13yrs. not one complaint.
