all right so i got tired with the raptor build that seemed like know matter what i did. the power just was never there. So i SOLD it!!!!. now to move on to something different. i have two bikes that i could choose from maybe even a third but first the raptor 700 with the big3. another ltr450 with exhaust, and a stock yfz450. all around the same price. so that isn't the problem, the problem is which one will be the best all around quad that i will not have to do alot to (cheap). i do a lot of trail riddin and booze cruzzin!!!. and do some track riding and would like to get into some hair scrambles and stuff. is the 700 top heavy like the 660's are, were my butt is never on the seat, always more on the nerf bars. please let me know what you think of each i have not ridden any of these quads so your input will decide my purchase. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!:beerchug:

700 450

I own a 07 GYTR 700 Raptor and a 08 YFZ 450 both mild modded ....I would have to say they both have nice things about them ?

The YFZ is lighter and easier to fling around and jumps real good. The Raptor has lots of low end torque and can lug around trails with only a few gear changes while the YFZ needs to be wound up to pull good....

I'm looking at getting a new 450 X Yamaha soon , I just like the injected stuff that you tune with a laptop....:thumb::thumb:

700r - you can go further with it than any other production model 4-stroke atv. as in, you are never short of the power you can add to the motor, especially for the way you are looking to apply it. stock, it cant take a 450 off the line and its heavy, about 100lbs heavier. Lower CG and fuel injected unlike the 660. 6-mod with gearing and you can drop 450 riders jaws at the start.

450r/x - matched for power to the 700r stock, lighter, quicker off the line. easier to maneuver in the woods, no all out power but still a fun ride. Dont expect your torque numbers to even come close to a decent 727 or larger Raptor. Its like bringing a knife to a gun fight. hill shooting, straight line dragging you will likely lose often. but track/ trail id say you would do well on this for a fun quad. You will want to add performance right off since I rode one stock and I was rocking my body trying to get it to accelerate for me.

LTR450 - I just read a comparison today about someone saying their LTR was like "15 lbs of s*** in a 5lbs bag". I guess they are compact to work on, very tight quarters. If you are steering clear from the Raptor, the general idea is to head for this quad for performance, not ease of maint and reliability. But im not very sure beyond that.

If you do more trails....get a 700 or maybe the 450x. Like said the 700 has massive torque. Great for trails. All I ride is trails and I couldn't be happier with mine. A buddy of mine just sold his 450r and got a 700r and loves the torque / power it offers. Its all on preference. ....

Good Luck with deciding.

I have a 660 and a 700. My brother has a YFZ450.
The 700 hundred rides a hundred times better than a 660 in stock form. Weight transfer on the trails is much improved form the 660. With the big 3 the 700 wakes up and theres never a lack of power for any trail climb.

The 450 is a fast and nimble bike. Easy to manuever but it wears you out on the trails. The seat will bother you after a long ride. Where the 700 hundred is like sitting on a lazy boy even after a couple of hours of riding. The handle bars will also wear you out.

If you want a good all around bike for trails, duning (700 shines in the dunes) and Hillshooting the 700 can do it all.

Ok, try a 12:1 piston 727, with +5 stroke, not bore. HC 2 or 3, FCI intake, 48mm TB, duals or HMF/Sparks/JSR, PC3 and maybe...maybe a dynatek controller. That would avoid head work which is leaving power on the table, but you will still pull on 450's.

My woods set up was Ebay velocity intake, TBR pipe, PC3 and Hot Cam 2. It had some speed, but I couldnt pull on built 450's. Now thats low budget crap racer set up. A 727 like above would be nasty in the woods.

Woods set up before I left was 771cc. 105mm 13:1 CP piston, RJ cam, STG 2 KDS head, 48mm TB, FCI intake, Barker duals, HR +5 stroker, PC5 and Dynatek programmable ignition. That was a nasty trail quad, nothing short of disappointing to anyone trying to keep up. Throws roost like MLB players throw baseballs. With a 450, that kind of power will always be a dream.

so i picked up my new ride today. i'm the new owner of one mint 06 700. it runs great. i think i will end up liking it. the only thing is, now i have to learn how this efi works and what mods to do. the guy put a full exhaust and commander. but i have been reading about hooking up a laptop and make it run even better. it seems to be running a little rich.

although i strongly stand by my 450, i would go with the 700 from your riding decisions. yfzs are nimble, light, and just scream. the 700s you can go fast or just go on a nice slow trail ride. also, id rather pick a 700 to build on for displacement and reliablility.

upgrades!

kudos on the 06 700! I have an 06 700...your question about upgrades...MOST go w a BIG THREE...i TRIED that with a Twin Air Filter, HMF slip on and a DYNATEK fuel map...after hours on phone w specialists I ended up taking the DYNATEK OFF, w stock fuel map(im at 4ft above sea level.)it runs perfect, and i got my money back on the DYNATEK. I even had my question featured in DIRTWHEELS magazine...APARENTLY...some first gen 700s were mapped with a rich setting of EFI, therefore mild hopups were OKAY. Ive rode the bike plenty with NO aftermarket EFI map, and beleive me, it runs fine. I just took mine out of the barn were it has rested the last year and one month...after jumping and getting air I noticed my 2006 fossil had REALLY softened up suspension from sitting so long. After jumping pond embankments repeadily, the suspension was perfect again.

well this is the other atv thread . I have not yet ridden a 700 but I would not prefer the 660 and neither do you obviously.

I will say the Zuk is a fast muther with 3 mods. Of course a drag racer will likely go 700.
I expect the 700 will soon have a custom made case available.
