So I just got a 2003 Raptor 660. And I have a few questions in this post. First question is I am looking to get more power and maybe some more speed and am wondering what mods are good for that. I am pretty mechanically inclined, and have a friend who's a mechanic. Currently it is stock except for a uni filter and dg exhaust. I'm looking for decently cheap and not too difficult things. Like getting a high compression piston, or new crank? I don't want it to be too difficult but for it to have a decent effect. Also not too expensive. My front sprocket needs to be replaced, so I was wondering if I got a different size how much it would affect my acceleration. I want to add acceleration but not take too much off of the top speed. So my question is what sprocket sizes are suggested for acceleration but not too much off top speed. The rear tires are 21 x 11 x 9. Main goal is to be able to do wheelies easily and beat my friends Honda 400ex bored to 440 with a Yoshimura exhaust.

First thing, a 660 running properly will mop the floor with a 400ex. In stock form the 660 will wheelie all day. Pull the carb and clean it and verify it jetted properly for your pipe, clean the air filter and change all the fluids to synthetic. That's a good start. After that get a feel for the quad. If you cant beat the 400ex right now, its not the quad, its the rider.

I already cleaned the carbs. Finishing replacing the starter clutch and putting 10w 40 atv oil in it. Hopefully it works. Not sure what jetting it has. Also the coolant was brown so replacing that. Right now I have new 91 octane gas in it, is that ok? Or should I go higher or lower octane?

You need to know where the jetting is. If you have stock jetting with a pipe you could be running lean, stealing power and damaging the motor. I would not worry about a sprocket until you have the more important stuff figured out. 91 octane wont hurt but without knowing if the head is stock or not I don't know if you can run regular or not. The brown coolant is not good. That could mean oil in your coolant which could mean head gasket. Keep an eye out if you are losing coolant. If so its probably time to pull the head.

Could the coolant be brown from just not getting changed? If I get a jet kit what take do you recommend?

For jetting call the manufacture of the pipe and ask them where to start. I am sure there is a baseline they recommend with the pipe. About the coolant. Its a closed loop system, it should not get dirty. Drain it, flush it and replace it and see if it goes brown again.
